Would you like to move through procrastination?
Do you ever have trouble moving through procrastination?
You may have noticed that shaming yourself because you’ve been procrastinating is NOT productive.
It’s much better to use tools to just start moving forward toward starting and finishing your goal on a consistent basis.
If you’re putting off starting a project because you find it overwhelming, you need to take a different approach.
Here are some tools to try:
- Break the project into a set of smaller, more manageable tasks. You may find it helpful to create an action plan starting with some quick, small tasks, in a specific, limited area, even if these aren’t the bigger things you want to tackle.
- Focus on one task at a time! Visualize yourself succeeding in the project and imagine the steps that you will need to take in order to succeed. Once you have visualized the steps, it is time to act on them.
- To get the prefrontal cortex of your brain in gear, without having to be experiencing a deadline-fueled adrenaline rush, set the timer for 20 minutes. Your brain likes the game of Beat The Clock, and it will work more efficiently, so you’ll see you get more done in less time.
- The key is to start right after you push the start button.
- You’ll see that you’re achieving things, and so perhaps the whole project of clearing clutter won’t be so overwhelming after all and be motivated to continue.
- Make up your own rewards for when you’ve completed a certain task. And make sure you notice how good it feels to finish things!
